Guedel Oral Airway Placement Steps

-Select the appropriate oropharyngeal tube

-Suction of oral and pharyngeal secretions.

-Flatten the head of the bed, assist the patient to take a horizontal position, head tilted back, so that the three axes of the upper respiratory tract (mouth, pharynx, larynx) as far as possible in a straight line.

Reverse insertion method: first, the guedel oropharyngeal airway tube is inserted into the mouth in the reverse direction (the tip of the tube is facing the palate), and when the entry length reaches one-half of the catheter's total length (the tip reaches the root of the tongue), the catheter is then rotated in the reverse direction by 180 degrees, so that the bottom of the catheter is wrapped around the back of the patient's tongue.

Direct Placement Method (for children): The soft hard and soft palate are protected by placing the tongue directly after pressing it down with a tongue depressor.
