Primary Functions:
Oxygen Supply:
Prior to intravenous general anesthesia intubation, the disposable anesthesia mask is placed over the patient's nose and mouth to allow them to inhale high-flow pure oxygen, known as pre-oxygenation. This increases the oxygen content in the patient's lungs, providing ample time for successful intubation.
Additionally, during short surgeries where patients undergo intravenous anesthesia, the mask can be used to assist spontaneous breathing by administering oxygen.
In case of emergencies such as respiratory distress, the mask can be used for pressurized oxygen delivery, establishing a temporary artificial airway to buy time for resuscitation efforts.
Anesthesia Administration:
When administering inhalational general anesthesia, the mask covers the patient's nose and mouth, enabling high concentrations of oxygen and anesthetic agents to be inhaled, thereby achieving the purpose of anesthesia delivery.
