Uncuffed Endotracheal Tube

Uncuffed Endotracheal Tube

Uncuffed endotracheal tube is for airway management use during pediatric surgical procedures and intensive care. Available in a wide range of pediatric size; 2.0mm to 5.5mm to provide better fit for premature infants.

Product Introduction

The uncuffed endotracheal tube is a type of breathing tube used in medical settings, particularly in the field of anesthesia and critical care. Unlike cuffed endotracheal tubes, which have an inflatable balloon around the distal end, uncuffed ET tube do not have this balloon feature. Instead, they have a smooth, continuous outer surface along the entire length of the tube.

Pediatric Application:

Uncuffed endotracheal tubes are frequently used in pediatric patients, where the smaller diameter of the airway makes it challenging to find a cuff size that fits securely without causing trauma to the airway lining.

FAQ

Q: What is the formula for uncuffed ET tube size?

A: About. Several formulas such as the ones below allow estimation of proper endotracheal tube size for children 1 to 10 years of age, based on the child's age: Uncuffed endotracheal tube size (mm ID) = (age in years/4) + 4. Cuffed endotracheal tube size (mm ID) = (age in years/4) + 3..

Q: When do you use cuffed endotracheal tube?

A: Cuffed ETTs have been shown in larger children and adults to reduce gas leak around the ETT, ETT exchange, accidental extubation, and exposure of healthcare workers to anesthetic gas during surgery.

Q: Why are uncuffed ETT used in neonates?

A: The standard of care in newborn babies is a tube without a cuff. Cuffed tubes are used more frequently in older babies and children to reduce leaks of gas around the tube, the risk of aspiration (breathing food, saliva, or stomach contents into the airways or lungs), the need to change the tube, or the tube coming out.
