At the heart of the device is a narrow orifice that guides oxygen through. When oxygen passes through this orifice at a certain speed, it creates negative pressure in the jet stream in the area. This negative pressure will attract air from the external environment, especially a part of the air carrying a certain amount of oxygen, through the open edge or side holes of the mask into the mask interior.
